Burna Boy, Asake, Davido, and Ayra Starr fiercely compete for Grammy recognition

The introduction of the Best African Music Performance category at the esteemed Grammy Awards has generated excitement and anticipation throughout the music industry.

The competition promises intensity with a diverse array of nominees representing the rich musical tapestry of the continent.

Notable contenders include Burna Boy (City Boys), Olamide Adedeji and Ahmed Ololade aka Asake (Amapiano), Davido featuring Musa Makamu (Unavailable), Ayra Starr (Rush), and Tyla Seethal from South Africa with her hit single ‘Water’.

Additionally, Tems received a nomination in the Best Song Written for Visual Media category for her contribution to the soundtrack ‘Lift Me Up’ in the film ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’.

The organizers aim to spotlight Africa’s substantial influence on global music through this new category, with the winner set to be revealed on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, USA.

Davido, showing enthusiasm for the recognition, expressed gratitude for the new category, emphasizing the significance for African artists to have the chance to win a Grammy. Meanwhile, Ayra Starr, already prepared with a Grammy speech and outfit, is looking forward to the event.

Fans eagerly await Burna Boy’s performance as he competes in three categories – ‘Best Melodic Rap’, ‘Best Global Music Album’, and ‘Best Global Music Performance’.

The star-studded ceremony will also feature performances by Billie Eilish, Travis Scott, Olivia Rodrigo, and Luke Combs.
