AGAIN, WHO IS LAYCON?

Ever since he emerged as the winner of the Africa’s most watched reality TV series Big Brother Naija season 5, Laycon has then become a force to reckon with and an household name interreliantly and not just provincially. Olamilekan Agbeleshebioba popularly known as Laycon is a Nigerian singer, rapper, entertainer, reality TV star and a media personality born on November 1993. Although he is from Ogun State, he is born and bred in Lagos where he had his secondary and tertiary education; he studied Philosophy at the Prestigious University of Lagos and graduated with a second class upper degree.

Laycon knew what he wanted to do right from time as he discovered his talent at an early age when he started writing songs. In 2014, he performed with some 9 other artistes at the 2014 Coke Studio University of Lagos event; he also made a top ten finalist at the 2017 MTV Base challenge. Fast forward to 2019, Laycon signed a deal with the Fierce Nation record label where he released the song ‘Fierce’ featuring Reminisce and Chinko Ekun as well as ‘Hip Hop Hurray’ featuring Deshinor and a couple of songs from his second EP titled ‘Who is Laycon?’ During these moments, Laycon was already making wavy music but he had a hard time gaining a ‘fanbase’ and promoting his music to a much larger audience until July 2020 when he got into the Big Brother House as the 19th contestant among 20 housemates. He soon captured the attention of a lot of viewers with his voice and song writing prowess, he began to entertain by rapping to his fellow housemates most of whom were delighted to have him sing and recite verses in most of the tasks assigned to them by Big Brother. He often refer to himself as a ‘god in human body’ and in no time, he broke a record by becoming the first housemate to reach one million followers on Instagram while still in the house, his fan base grew exponentially and they named themselves iCONS.

During the course of the show, he was able to achieve his sole objective for coming into the Big Brother Naija house which is to promote his songs to Nigerians and WORLD at large, he was also one of the most talked about housemate for the Big Brother Naija Season 5 and for some reasons, he has a special place in the hearts of too many viewers, his record was indeed unbeatable which is why he was declared winner of the season at the grand finale in September 2020 with over 60% of the total votes cast thereby going home with the #85 million grand prize.
