The NURTW president and 21 others have been apprehended on suspicion of involvement in a homicide

Date:

The President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Tajudeen Baruwa, along with 21 others, including three national officers of the union, are presently under police custody in Abuja.

The individuals in custody are facing charges of alleged criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, public disturbance, and behaviors that could incite a breach of peace.

Their apprehension occurred between Tuesday and Wednesday, and they were subsequently relocated to the former Special Anti-Robbery Squad facility, commonly referred to as “abattoir,” situated in Guzape, Abuja.

In an exclusive interview on Thursday night, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, confirmed this development and disclosed that once the police investigation concludes, the suspects will be brought before the court.

The NURTW president, Tajudeen Baruwa, and the other 21 individuals arrested are facing charges related to criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, public disturbance, and actions likely to disrupt peace.

They will face legal proceedings once the investigation concludes,” Adeh revealed.

Earlier this week, it was reported that a violent clash in the Garki area of the FCT resulted in at least one fatality and numerous injuries.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Haruna Garba, had previously confirmed the arrest of 23 male suspects and the recovery of three firearms in connection with the turmoil that unfolded on Sapele Crescent, off Ladoke Akintola Boulevard, Garki II, Abuja, during a confrontation between two factions of the NURTW on Tuesday.
