Dele Alli reveals he was sexually abused at the age of six

0

England International, Dele Alli, has revealed that he was sexually abused at the age of six by his mother’s friend.

The 27-year-old who spoke on Gary Neville’s “The Overlap” programme said he had an addiction to sleeping tablets and disclosed how he spent six weeks in rehab in the USA this summer.

“At six, I was molested,” the Everton midfielder told Gary Neville on The Overlap.

“I was sent to Africa to learn discipline. Then I was sent back. Seven, I started smoking. Eight I started dealing drugs, selling drugs.

An older person told me they wouldn’t stop a kid so I’d ride around with my football and then underneath I’d have the drugs.

“Eleven, I was hung off a bridge by a guy from the next estate. At 12, I was adopted. And from then, I was adopted by an amazing family, I couldn’t have asked for better people to do what they’ve done for me… If God created people, it was them. They are amazing and have helped me a lot.”

According to Skysports, Alli also revealed he had received addiction treatment this summer.

I got addicted to sleeping tablets and it’s probably not a problem only I have. I think it’s something that’s going around more than people realise in football.”

The England international, who spent last season on loan at Besiktas, added, “Now is probably the right time to tell people. It’s tough to talk about it as it’s quite recent and something I’ve hidden for a long time and I’m scared to talk about it. When I came back from Turkey, I came back and found out I needed an operation.

“I was in a bad place mentally. I decided to go to a modern rehab facility that deals with addiction and mental health and trauma. I felt it was time for me. You can’t be told to go there, you have to make the decision yourself.

“I was in a bad cycle. I was relying on things that were doing me harm. I was waking up every day, winning the fight going into training every day smiling – willing to show I was happy. Inside I was losing the battle and it was time to change. When I was told I needed surgery I could feel the feelings I had when the cycle began.

“Everton were amazing and supported me. I will be grateful to them forever. For them to be so honest and understanding I couldn’t ask for anything more during a time I was making the biggest decision of my life – doing something I was scared to do. I’m happy I’ve done it.”

Not all Nollywood movies are predictable – Tana Adelana

0

An actress, Tana Adelana, does not agree with the school of thought that says Nollywood movies are predictable.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, she said, “I don’t share the opinion that Nollywood movies are unpredictable and lack suspense. I watch Hollywood films too, and apart from superhero films and a handful of others, the simple movies such as the ones with Christmas themes, are the same. It is not peculiar to Nollywood. While some movies might be predictable, we also have some beautiful movies with amazing and unpredictable story lines. All you need to do is just log on to the popular movie streaming platforms.”

Speaking on her beauty routing, the actress said, “I eat right, drink a lot of water and avoid chemicals as much as I can. I also mind the business that pays me.”

On if she is as a strict as she has portrayed in some movies, she said, “To a reasonable extent, yes.  I am principled, and I always stand for whatever I believe in.”

President Tinubu Set To Become ECOWAS Chairman

0

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to become the next chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), TheCable understands.

Tinubu, who leaves Abuja on Saturday ahead of the Sunday meeting of the heads of state of the regional political and economic bloc, is expected to take over from President Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea-Bissau, diplomatic sources told TheCable.

The 63rd ordinary session of the authority of heads of state and government will take place in Bissau, capital city of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari previously held the position in 2018.

Tinubu, who succeeded Buhari as Nigerian president in May 2023, will be making his first international outing on the African continent at the ECOWAS meeting.

He attended the summit for ‘A New Global Financing Pact’ hosted by French president, Emmanuel Macron, in Paris, France, in June.

The summit of the ECOWAS heads of state is expected to address memoranda on pressing sub-regional issues, including a report of the 50th ordinary session of the mediation and security council covering security challenges faced by the member countries, report of the 90th ordinary session of ECOWAS council of ministers on the financial situation of the body, the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), as well as a report on the status of transition in Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinea.

Tinubu To Attend ECOWAS Summit In Guinea-Bissau

0

President Bola Tinubu will, on Saturday, July 8, depart Abuja for Guinea-Bissau to attend the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States, in Bissau, the country’s capital.

The President’s Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communications and Strategy, Dele Alake, revealed this in a statement he signed on Friday evening, titled ‘President Tinubu to attend ECOWAS summit in Guinea-Bissau.’

At the summit on Sunday, July 9, participants are expected to address memoranda on five pressing sub-regional issues.

They include “Report of the 50th Ordinary Session of the Mediation and Security Council covering security challenges faced by the member countries; Report of the 90th Ordinary Session of ECOWAS Council of Ministers on the financial situation of the body and the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area, as well as Report on the status of Transition in the Republics of Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinea,” Alake revealed.

Other items slated for discussion include; the Memoranda on the ECOWAS Single Currency Programme and the Report on Obstacles to the Free Movement of Goods on the Abidjan-Lagos corridor.

Guinea-Bissau is the first African State the President is visiting since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

So far, he has visited Paris, France, where he participated in the summit for ‘A New Global Financing Pact’ hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron from June 22-23.

From June 24 – 27, President Tinubu was in London for a private visit, where he reportedly met his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari. So far, he has spent eight days on foreign engagements.

Some members of the Presidential Policy Advisory Council and other top government officials will accompany him.

The Nigerian leader is expected back in the country at the end of the meeting.
