I’m Unlucky in Love – Kiitan Bukola

0

An actress, Kiitan Bukola, said she was unlucky to date a man who supported her.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, she said, “I am a child of grace, and I thank God for that. I don’t know why some people see me as a competitor (threat). I know that people appreciate me and I appreciate them in return. Also, I have not been lucky to date people who have been of help to me. The people I have dated have generally not been supportive. I have really not been lucky with dating guys that are supportive of me.”

When asked what she wants from a relationship, the actress replied, “I want to be happy in a relationship. I want a happy family and a good father for my children. Making money isn’t necessarily a priority.”

Kiitan, who was previously engaged, revealed that she is currently in a relationship. “Two people cannot have a relationship without quarrels. However, solving a problem or breaking up a relationship is up to the individual. If you can’t save the relationship, it’s best to just give up.

I am currently single and not searching. Right now I’ve given up on love, but tomorrow I might change my mind.”

Falcons beat Haiti 2-1 in the Pre-W’Cup.

0

The Super Falcons beat Haiti 2-1 on Friday at Emir Sports Complex, Antalya, Turkey as the team continues their preparations for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Nigeria senior women’s national team made it two consecutive wins after snapping out of their seven-match winless run.

Head coach Randy Waldrum made four changes to the team that defeated Costa Rica 1-0 at the maiden Revelation Cup in Mexico last month as Chiamaka Nnadozie, Halimat Ayinde, Onome Ebi, and Asisat Oshoala replaced Yetunde Balogun, Osinachi Ohale, Christy Ucheibe, and Ifeoma Onumonu.

Haitian coach, Nicolas Delepine, was dealt a heavy blow after centre-back Tabita Dougenie Joseph was ruled out of the encounter just before the kick-off.

The Falcons started the game brightly and 22 minutes into the encounter, Barcelona star Oshoala thought she had given the nine-time African Champions the lead but saw the goal correctly ruled out for offside.

Four minutes later, Rasheedat Ajibade almost gave the Falcons the lead they deserve but her brilliant effort hit the woodwork as the search for the opening goal continues.

Just five minutes before the break, the nine-time African champions finally broke the deadlock when Saint Etienne forward, Esther Okoronkwo, superbly taken left-footed free-kick found its way into the back of the net to give the Falcons the lead heading into the break.

The Falcons continued the second half with so much hunger and they doubled their lead through returnee Oshoala in the 58th minute.

The Barcelona striker was the quickest to react as the Haitian defence failed to clear their line from a corner kick.

The two-goal conceded spurred the World Cup debutants to life as they came out in search of goals but Nnadozie was up to the task as she denied the Haitian couple of goal chances.

There was a loud applaud as Desire Oparanozie made her long-awaited return to the team after she replaced Okoronkwo in the 65th minute, while Christy Ucheibe also replaced Ebi in the 73rd minute.

Waldrum’s side took their legs off the pedal and the Caribbeans pulled a goal back in the 75th minute to deny the Paris FC goalkeeper a clean sheet.

Haiti continued to search for the equaliser but Nigeria hold on for another win ahead of Tuesday’s clash with World Cup co-host, New Zealand.

Next up for the African heavyweights is a clash with World Cup co-hosts New Zealand also in Antalya next Tuesday evening with Waldrum’s side hoping to extend its unbeaten run to three games

Texas Federal Judge Blocks US Abortion Pills

0

A federal judge in Texas overturned the two-decade-old approval of a safe and effective abortion pill on Friday, the latest volley in a conservative battle against reproductive rights in the United States.

If it stands, the ruling by a Donald Trump appointee would reverse permission granted by the Food and Drug Administration for a drug widely used to terminate unwanted pregnancies.

But, in an illustration of how deep the fracture on abortion runs in US society, a judge in Washington state moments later ruled in a separate case that access to the drug must be preserved in more than a dozen states.

The dueling legal opinions, as well as an immediate vow by the US Department of Justice to appeal the Texas ruling, means the issue is almost certain to end up before the Supreme Court.

The conservative-dominated panel last year overturned the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling that had enshrined a woman’s right to abortion for half a century.

Reaction to the Texas ruling was swift.

“My administration will fight this ruling,” President Joe Biden said.

The court… has substituted its judgment for FDA, the expert agency that approves drugs. If this ruling were to stand, then there will be virtually no prescription, approved by the FDA, that would be safe from these kinds of political, ideological attacks.”

The president of the powerful American Medical Association, Jack Resneck, said that allowing judges to interfere in “extensive, evidence-based, scientific review of … well-established FDA processes is reckless and dangerous.”

Planned Parenthood, one of the largest pro-abortion groups in the United States, said the ruling by Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk — a former conservative activist aligned with the religious right — was an assault on science.

We should all be enraged that one judge can unilaterally reject medical evidence and overrule the FDA’s approval of a medication that has been safely and effectively used for more than two decades,” said the group’s president Alexis McGill Johnson.

Attorney General Merrick Garland said his department would appeal the judgment.

“The Justice Department strongly disagrees with the decision… and will be appealing the court’s decision and seeking a stay pending appeal,” he said.

Kacsmaryk’s ruling came after a coalition of anti-abortion groups sued to freeze the national distribution of mifepristone.

While he stayed the FDA’s 23-year-old approval, he also halted “applicability of this opinion and order for seven days” to allow time for appeals.

Anti-abortion groups hailed the move.

Today’s decision out of Texas is a win for the health and safety of women and girls,” said Katie Glenn of Susan B Anthony Pro-Life America.

“The ruling reaffirms that pregnancy is not an illness and abortion is not health care. Finally the FDA is being held accountable for its egregious violation of its own rules.”

– ‘Judge-shopping’ –

The case landed in his court via what critics call “judge-shopping,” in which plaintiffs take legal action in a district where the judge has a history of rulings that support their case.

Federal judges in the United States have a right to issue rulings that carry national legal force.

Opinion polls show a majority of Americans

favor access to abortion.

But the issue is an explosive one for those on the right, especially evangelical Christians.

A number of Republican-dominated states have begun trying to restrict access to abortion, and have launched legal attempts to overturn what many believed was settled law.

The Supreme Court ruling last year was seen as a major victory for the movement.

But it has proved unpopular with the electorate.

Some observers said the Republican failure to capture the Senate in last year’s midterm elections, along with their lackluster showing in the House, was at least partially the result of their support for the issue.

More than half of all abortions in the United States are performed with medication.

Mifepristone is one component of a two-drug regimen that can be used in the United States through the first 10 weeks of pregnancy.

It has a long safety record, and the FDA estimates 5.6 million Americans have used it to terminate pregnancies since it was approved.

0

Frank Lampard is on the verge of sealing a shock return to Stamford Bridge after being ‘offered’ the Chelsea manager’s job on a temporary basis.

The club opened talks with Lampard on Tuesday with a view to bringing him in until the end of the season while they focus on sourcing Graham Potter’s permanent replacement – with Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann the frontrunners.

Lampard, who spent a season-and-a-half in the hotseat before being replaced by Thomas Tuchel in January 2021, is reportedly eager to accept the deal following his reputation-denting departure from Everton earlier this year.

According to The Telegraph, both Ashley Cole and Joe Edwards are likely to follow Lampard through the door, forming part of his backroom staff, just as they did during his initial stint as manager.

The 44-year-old is likely to be in the dugout for Chelsea’s trip to Wolves on Saturday. That way, he’ll have plenty of time to prepare for the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Real Madrid on April 12.

Davido’s album sets a new streaming record.

  1. Spotify, a global online streaming platform, says Davido’s music is the most streamed in the United Kingdom, Nigeria, Canada and France.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the streaming platform’s Artiste and Label Partnerships Manager for West Africa, Victor Okpala, in a statement on Tuesday, said songs by Davido featured on over 10 million user-generated playlists on Spotify.

He said Davido’s fans appeal was hardly in doubt, adding that the afrobeat star usually made music that captured elusive, exhilarating energy, and fans across the world had connected since his earliest releases.

Data from Spotify shows that Davido is one of the Afrobeats’ biggest exports. While undoubtedly adored at home, the United States is the single largest market for Omo Baba Olowo’s music, with the vast majority of his plays coming from outside Africa.

The United Kingdom, Nigeria, Canada and France round out the top four countries where his music is streamed. Davido is one of Afrobeats’ truly global stars, and we are honoured to play our role in sharing his art and ethos with his dedicated fans in Nigeria and around the world,” Okpala said.

Okpala said the streaming platform also promoted Davido’s ‘Timeless’ album on a billboard in New York’s Times Square, noting that his new release had been celebrated by fans and artists alike, with many appreciating Davido’s ability to find cohesion within a body of work that played host to diverse collaborators.

Meanwhile, another music streaming platform, Audiomack, in a post on Monday on Twitter, said Davido’s ‘Timeless’ album had over 12 million streams in 24 hours, adding that this was the first time an album would achieve such a feat on the app.

The tweet read, “RECORD-BREAKING: Davido’s Timeless had over 12 million streams in its first 24 hours, more than any other album on Audiomack, ever! Keep streaming, keep supporting.”
