Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has approved the appointment of Justice Dije Aboki as acting Chief Judge of the state.
The appointment of Justice Aboki followed the retirement of the erstwhile Chief Judge, Justice Nura Sagir.
A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Muhammad Garba, on Wednesday, said before her appointment, Justice Aboki has been a state High Court judge since 2006.
The statement said her appointment takes immediate effect.
A 1983 graduate of Law from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Justice Aboki was called to the bar in 1984.
“Aboki began her career as state counsel in 1985 under the state Ministry of Justice. A year later, she was appointed a Magistrate and rose to become a High Court judge in 2006,’’ the statement said.
Aboki is a member of various professional bodies and holds numerous positions.
Veteran Nollywood actor, Ojo Arowosafe, popularly known as Fadeyi Oloro, is dead.
He died Tuesday after a protracted illness.
The details of Fadeyi’s death were still sketchy as of press time.
Born September 15, 1957, the veteran actor died at 66.
Confirming his death Tuesday night, actor and comedian, Bayegun Oluwatoyin aka Woli Arole, shared the news via his Instagram account saying, “So happy I reached out to you sir, so happy we played our part, so happy we laughed together, so happy we were able to show our support. Rest in Peace the Legend ‘Fadeyi Oloro’.
“Let’s check up on people when dey (they) are alive, Let’s show love when people can feel. Let’s help when it can be seen.”
Until his death, the veteran actor battled an undisclosed ailment for years.
The Ekiti-born actor rose to prominence during the 80s and late 90s for his trademarked herbalist character.
The late actor once called on Nigerians to help him financially in order to take care of his health.
The ailing actor once told Sunday Scoop, “Nigerians should help me. Everything needed for me to be in a healthy state requires money.
“I am getting better with the support of people, but I have not fully recovered. That is why I am pleading with Nigerians across all walks of life who I have impacted in one way or the other to help me.”
He noted that though he had not gotten enough help, he would not cast aspersions on associations in the industry. He said, “Everyone has different things they are battling with. I don’t want it to seem like I am insulting members of our association of actors.
“Though I did not get the kind of support I would have wanted, some individuals called me to greet me once in a while. I don’t blame them because they are going through different things.”

The Appeal Court in Abuja has granted the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, access to inspect electoral materials used by the Independent National Electoral Commission during February 25, 2022, general elections.
The All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, on Tuesday, urged the Court of Appeal in Abuja to order INEC to grant him access to sensitive materials it used for the presidential election.
Tinubu, through his lawyer, Mr Akintola Makinde, said he would need to inspect, scan and make photocopies of some of the electoral materials to enable him to prepare his defence against petitions that would seek to nullify his election.
While Tinubu’s first ex-parte application, which was filed on March 6, has the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi as respondents, in the second application, the Peoples Democratic Party, and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, were cited as respondents, alongside INEC.
The materials will be relevant in helping us to prepare our defence and also make comparison with the information contained in INEC’s back-end server,” Makinde said.
But delivering judgment on Wednesday, a three-member panel of the court, in four rulings on Wednesday granted the reliefs sought by Tinubu and APC in the fourth motion ex-parte, except prayers 5 and 6 in the motion filed by Tinubu.

Nigerian writer and filmmaker Onyeka Nwelue has said he never claimed he was a professor at the universities of Oxford and Cambridge.

The 35-year-old writer who was recently dismissed as Academic Visitor at University of Oxford and Visiting Scholar at University of Cambridge said he was misunderstood, adding that he had always been a ‘professor’ before he came to Oxford and Cambridge.
Nwelue said this as part of his response to the report by Cherwell about his sack by both prestigious universities with the headline “Fake professor dismissed from Oxford apologises for misogyny at fraudulent book launch.”
“I never in this world, told anyone that I was a professor at Oxford and Cambridge. I was a ‘Professor’ before I came to Oxford.
“On my social media bio, where I wrote: “Professor + Academic Visitor at the University of Oxford and Cambridge.” Please, read that again. ‘Professor’ came before ‘Academic Visitor.’ If I were a professor at Oxford, why did I need to add Academic Visitor?
“Comprehension is a problem, so I don’t have to blame the writers of the article meant to scandalize me, for not understanding what I said in the language of the country they live in. Even the reporter from The Telegraph, refused to ‘comprehend’ it,” he said.
Nwelue, who said he “became an envy of the world when he became an academic visitor at the two best universities in the world,” also said claims that he was a misogynist, racist and classicist was a misrepresentation of who he really is.
According to him his action on social media, which made many see him in that negative light was a social experiment meant to elicit feedback for his book.
“But the only thing I want to achieve with this piece, is to apologize to everyone that believes I am a racist, a misogynist, sexist or other crimes against humanity from the ‘evidence’ screenshot from my posts. They were meant to elicit feedback for my books. I am none of those and I didn’t utter any misogynistic word at the launch of the book that I published,” Nwelue maintained.
The writer also said the termination of his appointments at the two universities does not mean he lost a job as he was never paid during the time he was at both universities because he was only an academic visitor.

“That was why, many people came around me, to associate with power and prestige and when it was announced by Cherwell, I saw those people distancing themselves from me. What money and power can not do, does not exist!
“Young people who hoped it happened to them, would be jubilating. Read again: I did not lose a job. I was not an employee of Oxford or Cambridge. I paid them. They didn’t pay me.
“The only problem here is the accusation of misogyny and that students paid money to come for the event. The venue I used for this event, was paid for. It was not advertised as an event for students. Fans of the author came from cities like Liverpool. They had no issue coming for it. Another problem is the use of logo, which I apologized for and removed after I was asked to remove it,”Nwelue explained.
Nwelue, who had earlier apologized to.the universities of Oxford and Cambridge and taken responsibility for what happened, also revealed.his plans after his sack, saying that he would focus on his writing.
“I have apologized to the University and taken full responsibility for what happened, because I will never blame anyone for my failure.
When I told the Lord Mayor of Oxford, James Fry about my termination, he asked: “ What is your current situation?” I told him I will continue from where I stopped, which is, to focus on my writing. I have a new book, The Nigerian Mafia: Mumbai, which comes out in a few weeks, Nwelue averred.
Omotola recounted her childhood experience in a recent interview with Chude Jidenwo.
The mother of four revealed how her father passed away when she was 12 years old, adding it was a tragic incident that left her emotionless as she never grieved his death.
The actress further added that she was close to going into prostitution to survive because of the challenges she faced at a young age
Omotola Jalade said, “I think everything have been today, positively or negatively was because of the death of my father, it affected me so much, because I did not mourn my dad.
“I understand that I was his only child for a long time and my dad and I were very close, he was the manager of Lagos country club at the time, many influential people come there and because of that, I started rolling with people of influence from a little age.
When I was 13, they came to pick me up from school, I knew something was wrong and prayed that hope nothing has happened to my dad.
“When I got home, I realized my dad was dead, so going through that mental process, I didn’t know how to react and I didn’t know how I was feeling, I was just silent but now that I’m older, I think I really understand everything. So I just became emotionless and it has affected me till today.
“There is nothing anyone says to me that can move me, I am so confident in who I am and I don’t fear anyone. I don’t fear for my life, probably I would have become a prostitute today, I was very desperate to do anything and said I would rather sell my body than for anybody to tear my younger brother apart.”
