Joshua lifts the curse on London and defeats Franklin.

Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua got back to winning ways on Saturday night at the 02 Arena in London with a unanimous decision win over Jermaine Franklin.

The 33-year-old British-Nigerian heavyweight controlled the contest against the durable American but it was not the explosive early finish many expected and betting sites predicted.

The two-time champion won the match with the judges scorecards reading 118-111, 117-111, 117-111.

The British-Nigerian won the fight with his uppercuts landing the most damamge as Franklin took all Joshua’s hit boldly refusing to fall.

Tempers flared after the final bell as the two fighters squared up to each other, prompting their teams to enter the ring and be separated by security.

It is Joshua’s first win in more than two years, having lost consecutive bouts to Oleksandr Usyk.

“It was important to win. Jermaine has a good duck-and-dive style, somebody else from Britain will probably knock him out,” Joshua said.

I respect him, he did well. I should have knocked him out but it is done. On to the next. He is here to prove himself, not roll over. I wish I could have knocked him out.”

Joshua has now won 25 fights, with 22 stoppages, and lost three since turning professional in 2013.

It is a second defeat for Franklin, 29, having lost to Briton Dillian Whyte in November.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been spotted in Madrid driving an £8.8 million Bugatti Centodieci, one of just 10 models in the world.

The Al-Nassr striker was mobbed by fans in the city where he played for nine years, as they chanted his name and asked for selfies while he climbed back into the car and drove away.

He had taken girlfriend Georgina Rodríguez to a restaurant in the Spanish capital, and in doing so gave his hyper car a rare public outing.

Ronaldo bought the 1600 horse power Bugatti in March 2020 during his time at Juventus, and reportedly had it shipped to Mallorca with him for a family holiday last June.

The Centodeieci has rarely been seen in public though, which is hardly surprising given the £18m collection of cars the 38-year-old owns.

Popular Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has said that he does not think the 2023 general election was credible.

The ‘Dami Duro’ crooner said this in an interview with Beat 99.9FM, Lagos, on Friday.

Davido, who was off social media for a while after the death of his son, Ifeanyi, said he would have been very vocal about the elections if he was online.

He said he was happy about the low turnout of voters, adding that the safety of voters was important.

He said, “I’m happy that people were not really coming out. You know if I was online, I would have been really vocal about it (the election). I have always been vocal about it.

“But, I mean, I was happy about it. That’s just being honest.”

It’s what it is! But I personally don’t feel like that was really a credible election. You know what I’m saying? I feel like the most important thing is the safety of life of everybody. But in all, that wasn’t it. So, I don’t think I will be able to hide that. I can’t hide that,” Davido added.

The Afrobeat star dropped his much-awaited album, ‘Timeless,’ on Friday.

The music star took to his social media page in the early hours of Friday to announce the release of the 17-track project to his numerous fans.

“At long last – We are back. The journey from my last album to this album has been a whirlwind to say the least,” Davido wrote on Twitter announcing the album.

Davido’s ‘Timeless’ got one million streams in six hours after it dropped.

‘Civil coup’ idea of ​​interim government, says IPAC

The Inter-Party Advisory Council, a coalition of the 18 registered political parties on Friday raised concerns over plots of interim government by unknown persons.

Saying this would scuttle the nation’s democracy, it said this amounted to “treason and a civilian coup.”

The organisation called on the Department of State Services to name, arrest and prosecute the plotters of interim government in accordance with the law to serve as a deterrent to others.

The DSS had raised the alarm that following the 2023 general election some aggrieved persons were planning to destabilise the country by instituting an interim government.

But the National Chairman of IPAC, Yabaji Sani, told journalists in Abuja that the allegation, if true, was treasonable and a civilian coup.

He said, “Conscious of the need for reconciliation, healing, political stability, national unity, peace, cohesion and desire to preserve our hard-earned democracy after the contentious 2023 general election, the Inter-Party Advisory Council condemns in strong terms the call and plot to install an interim government in Nigeria. It is a civilian coup, treason, absolutely unconstitutional, undemocratic and unacceptable.

IPAC rejects any attempt to scuttle, subvert and truncate the nation’s emerging democracy by reactionary and retrogressive forces.

It is an attempt to overheat the polity, cause confusion, political upheavals, impasse and quagmire as was the case in the infamous annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election that necessitated the hasty set up of an Interim (National) Government by President Ibrahim Babangida which was headed by Chief Ernest Shonekan in August 1993.”

He also applauded the Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission during the governorship and State Assembly election in Abia State, Prof. Nnenna Oti, for her service delivery.

Sani encouraged Nigerians to emulate the virtue of integrity and dedication exemplified by Oti, who is also the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.

He said, “IPAC highly appreciates Professor Nnenna Nwannaya – Oti, the INEC’s Returning Officer in the just concluded Governorship and House of Assembly elections held on March 18 2023, in Abia State for her exemplary conduct and very impressive performance in the exercise.

“Council’s commendation is predicated upon her ability to rise above pressure and deliver on her statutory mandate without fear or favour, and hope that others can emulate this virtue of integrity, which is lacking among some public officers put in the position of trust.”

Manchester City coped without the injured Erling Haaland to keep the Premier League title race alive by coming from behind to thrash Liverpool 4-1 on Saturday.

Goals from Julian Alvarez, Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Jack Grealish moved the defending champions back to within five points of Arsenal at the top of the table.
City and Liverpool have finished as the top two in four of the past five Premier League seasons, but the Reds are struggling just to qualify for the Champions League after a dreadful campaign and were given another lesson in the gap they have to bridge to be back challenging next season.

A chastening defeat leaves Jurgen Klopp’s men still seven points adrift of the top four down in sixth.

A groin injury meant Haaland was watching on from the stands alongside his father and former City midfielder Alfie Haaland.

Despite the absence of their 42-goal striker, Pep Guardiola’s men made a positive start as Alisson Becker was forced into saves from Gundogan and Rodri before Riyad Mahrez fired free-kick inches wide.

A woman gave birth to quintuplets after nine years of marriage.

A 28-year-old woman, Mrs Chidinma Amaechi, has given birth to a set of quintuplets after nine years of marriage.

The quintuplets, consisting of three boys and two girls, were delivered through a caesarian section on Thursday at the Life International Hospital, Awka, Anambra State.

The woman, who finished her National Youth Service Corps programme in July 2022, is married to an Onitsha-based trader, Mr Tochukwu Amaechi.

City Round gathered that Amaechi was without a job and conceived naturally.

She called on the government and other good-spirited individuals to assist her to settle the over N7.5m medical bills.

The babies are currently in the intensive care unit of the hospital.

Her elder sister, Mrs Ebele Oranekwu, who spoke to journalists at the hospital, disclosed that the bill for the incubators alone was N250,000 per day, adding that the babies were expected to be there for about 30 days.

She said, “This bill amounts to about N7.5m aside from other huge bills already accumulated in the last two months of managing the delicate pregnancy at the hospital.

“We are calling on philanthropists, government and non-governmental organisations to come to our aid to enable us to settle the huge medical bills so we can reap the full benefits of God’s blessings upon our family.”

One of the caregivers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the children and their mother were responding to treatment.

Speaking in an Instagram live on Thursday, he said he was not kidnapped, but left his home intentionally, and he went ahead to explain why did so.

 

Recall the comedian’s wife in a video posted on the actor’s Instagram page on Tuesday, 28 March, said that her husband left home without his phone, and she was confused and didn’t know what to do.

 

The comedian said, “I was under spiritual attack, I left home myself because all the prophecies I heard about me were all coming to past.”

 

He furthered elaborate on the prophecy, where he said some prophet told him he will go broke, get into debt, sell his car and walk all the places he once drives to.

 

He also clear the air on the rumor going round about his family, that he was unaware about his wife having 3 children before they got married.

 

“I have a child of my own before marrying her, she had two of her own, which I know of, and we also have one together, all making 4 children.

 

“So the rumor about me taking responsibility on 5 children is false, even the four children don’t stay with us, they stay with their grandma, they often visit though,” he explained.

 

The comedian also explained that he doesn’t message people to beg for money as rumored, said the only person he sent a message to was his colleague, Mr Sabinus who invited him for a job once and offered him money, but he refused it.

 

“I sent him a message because I felt he would understand my situation, but unfortunately he read the message but doesn’t reply. It was even another colleague that convinced me to send him a message in the first place, I never intended to do so,” he said.

 

He went on to appreciate his fans and colleagues for their efforts while he was away, adding that depression was real.

 

He said, “I appreciate everyone. They said almost everyone posted. I want to tell everyone that depression is real and I want to tell the whole world that nobody kidnapped me. I did it intentionally but thank God I am back”.

Portable to spend weekend in police cell

Following the expiration of a 72-hour ultimatum given to controversial singer, Habeeb Okikiola, aka Portable, by the police, he has been arrested and would be charged to court.

Recall that the police had asked the ‘Zazoo Zehh’ crooner to turn himself in following allegations of assault. The singer would now remain in police custody till Monday.

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the singer’s arrest on Friday, adding that he is now at the State Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Earlier on Tuesday on Tuesday, the artiste was seen in two videos verbally assaulting and rough handling some police officers at his bar in Sango Ota, Ogun State. However, he claimed that “for no reason”, an alleged Internet fraudster had brought the police officers to his bar to arrest him and his staff members.

According to Oyeyemi, Portable was invited following a petition by a young studio owner who claimed that Portable together with his aides beat him to stupor and locked his studio.

He added that all the summons that were sent to the singer, he did not honour any of them.

The Presidency confirmed the resignation of the oil minister.

The controversy surrounding the rumoured resignation of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, was brought to an end on Frida after the Presidency confirmed Sylva’s resignation.

Special Assistant to the President on Digital Communications, Bashir Ahmad, disclosed this via his verified Twitter handle, adding that Sylva resigned to pursue his gubernatorial ambition.

“Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, and former Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, has resigned his appointment to contest in the next Bayelsa governorship election,” Ahmad tweeted.

On Friday that there was controversy over the resignation of Sylva, as senior officials of the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources refused to confirm whether their boss had resigned.

The report stated that though the officials admitted that the rule of the All Progressives Congress required the minister to have resigned in about 30 days before the April 14, 2023, governorship primaries, they refused to confirm his resignation.

“I have not seen his resignation letter and cannot confirm to you if he has resigned. But you know the rule of the party is that one must have resigned for at least 30 days before the primaries.

So if he has sent his resignation letter to the President, I cannot confirm, but the fact remains that he is for the office of the governor of Bayelsa State,” an impeccable source at the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, who requested not to be named due to lack of authorisation, had stated.

Sylva had served as Governor of Bayelsa in the past, for one full term between 2008 and 2012. At the time, he was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The PDP, which is now an opposition party, was at the time of Sylva’s reign as governor, the party running the Federal Government.

It was recently reported that some APC members in Bayelsa State had called on the national leadership of the party to disqualify Sylva from contesting the governorship primaries of the party over his refusal to resign his position as a minister.

The report stated that party members from 43 Wards in Ekeremor, Ogbia, Sagbama, Kolokuma/Opokuma, and Southern Ijaw Local Government Areas of the state, in a petition to the party national leadership, pointed out that as at the time the minister was screened, he had not resigned.
