In five years, I see myself happily married to the most beautiful woman, with two adorable kids, living the best life. I will have conquered the entertainment and real estate industries as a director, producer, and actor. I will be living a life of success and fulfillment.

Were there any early difficulties as an ACTOR, and what kept you going?

Despite the numerous challenges that come with being a beginner in any industry, my passion and ambition kept me motivated and determined to succeed.

You are such a fun and loving person according to your social media; how can you describe your professional self?

Thank you for the kind words. I would say I’m disciplined and passionate about what I do, which helps me to be flexible when needed. I’m also a perfectionist, so I’m always open to learning and growing in my career.

What words of wisdom would you offer to talented people out there nursing ambitions to become actors?

To all the aspiring actors out there, I urge you to stay focused and consistent in honing your craft and skills. There will be many discouragements along the way, but if you remain persistent, you will eventually succeed. While you pursue the art of bringing a character to life, make sure to find a job that pays the bills.

You are such a fun and loving person according to your social media; how can you describe your professional self?

One of the things I appreciate most about my current position as an actor in the Nigerian entertainment industry is how far I have come as an actor and Executive Producer and Co-Producer. It has been a remarkable journey and I am truly grateful. Another thing I am thankful for is the recognition I have received, and the fact that there has been no negative news about me.

On the other hand, some of the things I don’t like about my current position include not getting enough roles or diverse roles, and the offers I receive in terms of payment. All in all, I am content with my current situation.

What are you looking forward to in the new year—any projects?

This year, I am incredibly optimistic about my future as an actor and producer. I am looking forward to starring in a Netflix original and other projects as a lead. I have a few projects in the works that I am expecting to be successful.

The journey has been far from easy – Actor David Akande

0

Filmmaker David Akande chronicles his arduous journey in the film industry, offering insight and encouragement to aspiring filmmakers. His journey has been anything but easy, yet he perseveres with a passion for the craft.

I have been on a long and winding journey since I graduated from university in 2013. After completing my National Youth Service Corps in 2014, I decided to pursue a career in film and applied to film school. I graduated in 2015 and officially joined the film industry in 2016.

The journey has been far from easy. I have had to squat in a face-me-I-face-you house, wash people’s clothes and cars, and run errands to make ends meet. I never saw it as suffering, but rather as lessons. I also had to trek long distances to teach JAMB and WAEC classes and do TV shows, for which I was paid a meager 1,000 Naira twice a week. I saved this money for transport to attend auditions.

Surviving in Lagos was especially tough for someone like me who had grown up in Ilorin. I had to be strong and determined, and at times I even had to sleep in a bus. It wasn’t until 2022 that I started getting paid for jobs in the film industry, eight years after completing my National Youth Service Corps.

In 2019, I experienced a difficult setback that I still cannot bring myself to talk about. I left the place where I was learning filmmaking and acting jobs became scarce. To survive, I had to subtitle movies. My career was essentially paused.

It wasn’t until 2021, after a lot of prayer and determination, that I was able to start over. My first official work after the pause was ALAISE, and thankfully it was a success. I am still finding my way and praying to God for guidance, as He knows where I want to be.

I trust his process and I’m not in a hurry. I don’t have everything, but I’m content with the little I have. I’m not embarrassed by my humble beginnings and my growth process. I have faith in God and I will never give up!
