Joshua loss to Usyk

0

A tearful Anthony Joshua rued his second straight defeat to Oleksandr Usyk after the supremely talented Ukrainian fought back to retain his world heavyweight titles in Saudi Arabia .

Joshua hurled two of Usyk’s belts to the canvas and stormed out of the ring in a fit of pique after letting slip a golden opportunity to hand the Ukrainian his first professional loss.

The 6ft 6ins (1.98m) Briton scented victory when he had Usyk hanging on in the ninth round, only for the mobile southpaw to come firing back and control the final stages for a split-decision win.

Joshua, 32, let fly a string of expletives – in front of the deeply conservative country’s de facto ruler, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman – in an impassioned post-match speech.

“I just spoke from my heart. It has been so tough. You see AJ holding it together. I’m a hustler, so I try to keep things together, try work hard. Make sure my team is good,” he said.

It comes at a cost. It would never break me but it takes real strength and tonight there’s a little crack in the armour.”

While Joshua is left trying to rebuild his career after his third defeat, Usyk retains the IBF, WBA, and WBO titles and will now seek a unification showdown with WBC champion Tyson Fury.

I should have won,” lamented Joshua, who was too emotional to speak for part of his post-fight press conference.

“I adapted, I made the change that I needed to give him more of a competitor. It wasn’t enough but I left everything in the gym,” he added.

If I would have left everything in the ring I would have won.”

Usyk agreed with Joshua, saying: “The reason why the belts are coming back to Ukraine is that Anthony Joshua didn’t use his size advantage to the end.”

Despite the defeat, promoter Eddie Hearn issued a fierce defense of Joshua, who has revitalised British boxing and was fighting his 12th successive heavyweight title clash.

“He’s devastated by defeat because he wanted victory more than anything,” Hearn said.

“We’re all extremely proud of him for giving us a great fight tonight against one of the best that’s ever laced up a pair of gloves.”

I discussed fixing Nigeria with Obi — Femi Kuti

0

Afrobeat musician, Femi Kuti, became the target of Internet trolls when he stated that being obedient in Nigeria was tantamount to being a zombie. Many supporters of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, who are called ‘Obidients’ took his statement as an attack against them.

However, Obi later cautioned his followers and supporters to stop heckling and harassing Kuti. He later visited Kuti during the week.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, Kuti stated that though he would not like to discuss the details of his meeting with Obi because it was a private one, he admitted that they discussed politics and the state of the nation.

He said, “I really don’t want to talk about what I discussed with Peter Obi. The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, also visited me and I did not reveal what we discussed. Some people even said Osinbajo gave me money. And, I told him to tell the world if he indeed he gave me money, and he said he did not. Even at that, some people chose not to believe us. That shows that some people already have their minds made up regardless of the facts on the ground.

“If I tell you about my discussion with Obi, I feel that will not be right. But, if he comes out to say something different from what actually transpired, I would then have to talk, at least to set the records straight. However, I can give you the periphery of our discussion. We talked about how bad Nigeria is, and I gave him some ideas on what I felt needed to be done to put the country on the right path of development.

He also mentioned that campaigns should not involve threats, and he said that was why he came to apologise to me for the actions of some of his followers who threatened and abused me on social media.”

Kuti, however, maintained that he was not moved by the backlash he got over his statement. He said, “I cannot be forced to support anyone. A candidate can even caution their fans against doing certain things, but not all of them will listen. If I want to campaign for a certain person, I will give my reasons for doing that.

I have spoken against many politicians in the past, including Bola Tinubu (presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress) and Atiku Abubakar (the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party).”

The Grammy Awards nominee also maintained that he did not call Obi’s supporters zombies. He said, “A particular journalist came to the New Afrikan Shrine and I expressed my views, only for people to start attacking me because the media said I called Obi’s supporters zombies, which I did not do. When I got home, I saw the post and I quickly corrected it that I didn’t call them zombies. But, they kept on attacking me. Some people even threatened to burn down the Shrine. I had to do a video explaining in clear words what I meant.”

Drama continues on Big Brother Naija

0

The ongoing Big Brother Naija (Level Up) has continued to generate excitement among lovers of the reality TV show. OGHENOVO EGODO-MICHAEL writes about activities in the fourth week of the show

Day 23: Another eviction night

Sunday, August 14, 2022, was yet another day for some housemates to vacate Big Brother’s house. As the Head of House last week, Adekunle had put up Bryan, Groovy, Ilebaye, Khalid and Phyna up for eviction. During the eviction show, Ilebaye and Khalid, were shown the door as they did not get enough votes to keep them in the house. Immediately he heard his name, Khalid took temporary solace in Daniella’s arm. Outside the house, Khalid stated that though his relationship with Daniella ‘hit him like a bus’, he was serious with her.

Day 24: Eloswag returned as HOH

At the Head of House games, the Level Two housemates were yet again at a disadvantage as Level One’s Eloswag emerged the winner. The game entailed putting a jigsaw puzzle together. By virtue of his position, Eloswag nominated Chizzy, Daniella, Kess, Pharmsavi, Amaka and Groovy for eviction.

Day 25: Level One running out of food?

Two housemates, Doyin and Deji, had a disagreement, with Deji warning her (Doyin) to watch her words. She had referred to Deji as being insecure and a coward because he had not told Allyson about the crush he has on her, knowing full well that Allyson likes him too.

Meanwhile, in the Level One house, there seemed to be shortage of food. In a bid to solve the problem, Chichi lambasted Eloswag, whom she felt was not managing the situation properly.

Day 26: Deji on secret mission

Two housemates, Adekunle and Sheggz, got into a fierce argument which could have led to a fight before other housemates intervened. In the course of the altercation, Sheggz referred to Adekunle as being stupid and not intellectual.

Meanwhile, Big Brother sent Deji on a mission to ‘cause’ problems in the house. Biggie instructed Deji to vigorously and consistently complain about his fellow Level One housemates consistently for the week to the point of packing his bags and switching houses.

Meanwhile, Hermes gave his ‘relationship’ with Allyson another shot, offering her the ‘opportunity’ to be his third girlfriend. However, she flatly refused the offer.

However, on his part, Eloswag seemed to be making progress in wooing Chomzy; even as Doyin and Dotun ironed out their differences regarding their friendship.

Day 27: Kess ‘proposed’ to Modella

While in the kitchen with other housemates, Kess revealed that he was from a polygamous home and asked Modella to be his second wife. Daniella later joined the conversation and reminded Kess that he was already married.

On their part, the Level One housemates shared some of their past experiences with one another.

Groovy and Phyna had their first fight today because the former felt Phyna was supporting Hermes a bit too much. Phyna apologised and though Groovy did not initially accept the apology, he later forgave her and they continued carrying on like lovers.

Day 28: Fights and tears

The Level Two housemates had fun at a pool party while the Level One housemates entertained themselves with a ‘question and answer’ game started by Adekunle and Chizzy. However, contrary to expectations, the game led to fights between some of the housemates. Chomzy attacked Doyin regarding her relationship with different guys in the house. She was supported by Chichi, Rachel and Bella. Chomzy also got into a disagreement with Dotun. She later told Eloswag that she was hurt by the things Dotun said to her.

Later in the day, Biggie announced that Level One’s Deji and Level Two’s Groovy would be switching houses. This left Chichi, who had grown fond of Deji, in tears. Phyna also cried her eyes out for Groovy

Day 29: Party time

With Groovy in the Level One house, Chichi, Sheggz and Bella advised Chomzy on the way to go with Groovy. This was even as Chomzy noted that she was not sure of his personality. Chichi went on to advise her not to have anything to do with him.

Later, the housemates had a good time at the Saturday night party.

#Bbnaija S7: I want to marry you, Sheggz tells Bella

0

A Big Brother Naija season 7 housemate, Sheggz, has assured his housemate sweetheart, Bella, of his love, adding that he wants to marry her.

Sheggz made this known during their discussion following the Saturday night party.

Prior to the party, the duo had a disagreement and while trashing out the issue, Sheggz assures Bella of his love for her and how much she means to him.

He said, “You’re everything I ever wanted. Even when you’re on your period. Even if someone vexes(sic) you. Even when you’re fighting with Chomzy.. even when you do something I don’t like. I’ll always be there and you know why? Because you’re my everything.

“I want you to see this from another perspective…Babe, I really want to marry you. I really think you’re everything that’s missing.”
