Do you remember Anthony Madu, a ballerina? A documentary about him is being made by Disney.

0

Remember Anthony Madu, the Leap of Dance Academy young ballet dancer who stole the hearts of people around the world after a video of him dancing in the rain went viral? Yes, that fantastic talent.

In case you missed it, check this out.

Disney Original Documentary announced that it’s producing a documentary on Anthony Madu. “It will follow a remarkable course of events that began in 2020 when Anthony’s ballet teacher posted 44 seconds of him performing graceful pirouettes and leaps in that unexpected setting,” Deadline reports.

It’s titled “Madu,” and it’ll have a festival run before a limited theatrical release.

The synopsis reads;

Having grown up in an isolated community outside of Lagos and with almost no formal training, audiences will get a close look at Anthony’s journey after being awarded a scholarship to Elmhurst Ballet School, one of the most prestigious ballet schools in the United Kingdom. Anthony comes from a community with limited opportunities, making this a chance of a lifetime to pursue his dream… By immersing the audience in Lagos’s culture and fascinating surroundings, Ogens and Benson use their unique perspectives to bring the film to life in the true spirit of Nigeria and its people. Featuring intimate vérité and stunning visuals, the film will immerse audiences into the characters’ worlds and examine their journeys in profoundly inspiring ways.

“Madu” is directed by Matt Ogens and Kachi Benson and produced by Jamie Patricof, Katie McNeill, and Rachel Halilej of Hunting Lane Films. Marjon Javadi oversees the project for Disney Original Documentary.

Ranks Africa Weekly Entertainment Cover: The Rise and Rise Of Asake

0

Asake is the new cover star of Ranks Africa Weekly Entertainment News, and we took a ride through Asake’s journey thus far.

Ranks Africa Weekly Entertainment Cover

Ahmed Ololade Asake (born 13 January 1995), known professionally as Asake, is a Nigerian Afrobeats singer-songwriter

Asake studied Theater & Performing arts at Obafemi Awolowo UniversityIle-IfeOsun state. His musical career got into mainstream in 2020 when he released a freestyle titled ‘Mr. Money’. A remix with Zlatan and Peruzzi followed. He released songs like Body and Yanyan before he was signed by YBNL in February 2022 and later got signed by Empire Distribution in July 2022.

From hustling for free bedspace to investing in real estate, Asake announced on 18th August, he becomes house owner in lagos, he share a photo of his newly acquired mansion..

Asake’s House

Taking a line from Fireboy DML’s track “Glory,” he captioned the post, “Went from hustling for free bedspace to investing in real estate.”

Asake often uses a uptempo Afro and Amapiano-styled beat. There are elements of Fuji (a Yoruba traditional music genre) in his songs. On the 1st of September 2022, Asake announced the dropping of his first studio album “Mr. Money With The Vibe” which was released 7 days later, the album received high praise from fans in Nigeria and across the world.

Mr. Money With The Vibe.” The album has 12 songs, including previously released “Sungba (remix),” “Peace Be Unto You,” and “Terminator.”

Guest appearances on the album include American rapper Russ and Nigerian Grammy-winning superstar Burna Boy

Asake’s music evokes a deep connection to the gritty realities of Lagos, and our interview had been slated to take place in a part of the city that bears significant meaning to him. But the singer, 27, needed to fly to the U.S. for his first international promo tour, and so we are instead soldiering through sporadic moments of wonky cross-continental internet.

Nigerian street-pop is an important subgenre that blends rudimentary elements of Afrobeats from pop, to rap, with gritty, cheeky lyrics and a propensity for documenting Nigerian street life. Asake emerged on the scene in 2020 with “Mr. Money,” and his subsequent collaboration with Olamide, the legendary Nigerian street-pop artist, on the slow-burning, amapiano-infused “Omo Ope,” announced him as one of the country’s fastest-rising acts. Asake’s most notable work, “Sungba,” has the same sonic elements: Amapiano bass lines paired with skeletal instrumentations that hold the listener hostage. Just as “Sungba” was blowing up, Burna Boy joined him on the remix — then performed it during his historic headlining show at New York’s Madison Square Garden this spring.
