Gyakie, Sarkodie,Tems, Stormzy, & Stonebwoy to Perform at Global Citizen Festival in Ghana

0

Global Citizen has announced the lineups for the 10th anniversary Global Citizen Festival, which will be held in New York City’s Central Park, in Accra, Ghana’s Black Star Square on September 24, 2022.

Since 2012, when it started lighting up Central Park’s Great Lawn, the Global Citizen Festival has been the world’s longest-running global campaign to end extreme poverty. It brings together millions of people, whose voices are amplified by the world’s biggest artists, to demand that world leaders act NOW.

Globally, the disproportionate impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed nearly 100 million more people into extreme poverty and is reversing recent trends of shrinking inequality, leading to the loss of at least three years of progress. Without urgent action now, this backsliding will only worsen. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has aggravated the situation further, with as many as 323 million people now facing acute hunger and 1.2 billion people now living in nations experiencing a perfect storm of food, energy, and financial crises. If we don’t take action NOW, as many as 200 million more people may be plunged into extreme poverty by November.

The 2022 Global Citizen Festival will call on world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly and ahead of the G20 and COP27 in November to step up and invest $600 million into the future of women and girls; close the annual $10 billion climate financing shortfall; deliver $500 million to help African farmers respond to the global food crisis; and provide urgent relief from crushing debts to End Extreme Poverty NOW.

With two stages in international cultural capitals, New York City and Accra, Ghana, the 2022 Global Citizen Festival will be broadcast and streamed on ABC, ABC News Live, FX, Hulu, iHeartRadio, TimesLIVE, Twitter, YouTube, and more.

Marking the 65th anniversary of Ghana’s independence and the 20th anniversary of the African Union, Accra’s iconic Black Star Square will see live performances from Usher, SZA, Stomzy, Gyakie, H.E.R., Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, and Tems, with more to be announced.

Performers on the Central Park stage will include Metallica, Charlie Puth, Jonas Brothers, Maneskin, Mariah Carey, Mickey Guyton, and Rosalia, with more to be announced. The Global Citizen Festival: NYC will be hosted by actor, producer, author, and Global Citizen Ambassador Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

Global Citizen is calling for world leaders, major corporations and philanthropic foundations to take to the Global Citizen Festival stages and announce new commitments to End Extreme Poverty NOW, including:

  • Deploy Financing NOW and immediately meet the total goal of reallocating $100 billion in IMF Special Drawing Rights (SDRs), by making up the $40B shortfall.
  • Take Climate Action NOW and fulfil the $100 billion per year promises made in the Paris Agreement.
  • Empower Girls NOW and provide critical investments into girls’ education, sexual and reproductive health and economic empowerment
  • Mitigate a Global Food System Meltdown NOW by providing $500 million for Africa’s farmers to make the most of the current planting season and fund the local production of fertilizers, tools, and equipment they need to produce more food.

“While communities face injustices, crises and inequalities in the world, we simply cannot give up the fight and solidarity to end poverty. We need all voices in calling for a better future for everyone, everywhere. Now is the time for ambitious action. Together, with Global Citizen, we can keep the promise of the Sustainable Development Goals,” Amina Mohammed, United Nations Deputy Secretary General.

Tickets to the festivals are free and can be earned by downloading the Global Citizen app or visiting www.globalcitizen.org to take action on the campaign’s issues. For each action taken, users earn points that can be redeemed for tickets to the festivals.

Interview: Tobi Bakre talks about playing the Lead Role in “Brotherhood” and “Gangs of Lagos”

0

Tobi Bakre is undoubtedly one of the fastest rising stars in Nollywood. Since he came into the limelight as a contestant on the 2018 edition of the reality show, Big Brother Naija, he has gone on to work on several projects, including web series and box office films. It’s officially Tobi Season and Greoh Studio absolutely love to see it!

Tobi Bakre is the star of the newly announced Amazon Prime Video Original (The very first Nigerian Original!)Gangs of Lagos, and he is also set to take the Nigerian box office by storm with his role as Akin in Greoh Studio’s highly anticipated film, Brotherhood which premieres in cinemas across Africa from September 23.

Tell us a bit about the character you play in Brotherhood.

Tobi: I played the role of Akin Adetula aka Kalashnikov (One of the brothers). Based on what I and the producer Jade had discussed which also was the vision of the Director- Loukman, we wanted a totally different look and feel for the character, and I was willing to go all the way. I changed my diet, changed my workout, shaved my head, and pierced my ears to look like the character we all envisaged. I loved it. Getting into character wasn’t too much of a hassle, the story, the stage design, and my look made it easier to stay locked into the character.

You are also the lead character in Jade Osiberu’s highly anticipated film, Gangs of Lagos. Tell us a bit about that experience.

Tobi: GAAAAAAAAAANGS OF LAGOS!!!! You have to shout it whenever you say it. Everybody around you must hear it, everybody around you and in the world must see it. So far in my acting career, I will say this is that movie. A movie of many things to me. It holds many sentiments. It’s my first Lead Role as an actor. It’s the first time anybody was going to trust me to deliver on what I will call a big stage which has now become a global stage. It was the first time in a long time I really feel like I impressed myself and impressed everyone that has come across this project. The movie will mean a lot to the Nigerian movie industry, and to have played the lead in such along with the most amazing actors you can only dream of working with, I can only tell you God indeed works in miraculous ways. Being given such an opportunity and possibly delivering beyond expectations. I just keep saying, God, you did that! Oluwatobilobaaaaa, you did that! Jade and Lala You Did That!

What should the audience look out for in these two highly anticipated films in which you play the lead role?

Tobi: The audience needs to see in real-time the future of Nollywood shows facing in present times. True storytelling at its best. Best Directing, Best Acting, Best Lighting, Next level creativity, Next level collaboration, genius marketing, and much more. It will inspire a lot of great things to come.

Which movie would you say is most challenging so far and why?

Tobi: They have all been challenging in their own unique ways. None was a breeze through. They both took blood, sweat, and tears. I’ll call it a truce on this one.

Describe what having fun after a long day at work is to you.

Tobi: Fun after a long day’s work is coming home to make silly noises to my infant and watch him laugh and play all the way.

#Bbnaija S7: My pains after disqualifications- Beauty

0

Ex-beauty queen, Beauty Tukura, has revealed she cried severally after her disqualification from the ongoing Big Brother Nigeria season 7 reality TV show.

Tukura was booted out of the competition after getting into a physical altercation with a fellow housemate, Groovy, just two weeks into the show.

Earlier in the show, she was given a strike by Biggie after getting into a shouting match with another housemate Ilebaye.

In a series of tweets shared on Wednesday, the 2019 Miss Nigeria winner reminisced on getting the good news that she was chosen as a contestant for the show, and how she nurtured hopes for winning.

“When I learned I was accepted into the Big Brother Naija season 7 house, I was the happiest person on Earth,” she wrote. “It felt like the world was my oyster, and I was excited for a chance to play the game, while remaining true to my authentic self.

“The 7th of August, 2022 was and still is a day I’ll always live to remember. While I went into the house with the positive mindset of winning and making everyone proud, my goals were cut short due to some behaviors I exhibited, ultimately leading to my disqualification.

No one goes in with the intention of being disqualified. It’s been more than a week out of Big Brother’s house, and this period has afforded me the much-needed time and space to reflect on my actions.”

Stating that she “cried for days” following her disqualification, Beauty also expressed her regrets for failing her fans.

In her statement, Tukura apologised to the organisers of BBNaija as well as the Miss Nigeria organisers, whom she claimed followed up to ensure she got the needed help after the incident.

“My profound apologies and gratitude go to; those hurt by my actions in the house. The entire organisers of Big Brother Naija Season 7 Show @BBNaija. The Miss Nigeria Organization, thank you for constantly following up on me to see that I get needed help. My family & friends – for your steadfast love and support.

“To my new family, and the best fan base #BeeNavy, the fact that I failed you all has hurt me so deeply. I have cried for days and I truly regret my actions,” she tweeted.

I have been approached by g@y- Actor Lateef adedimeji

0

Lateef Adedimeji is a celebrated actor with over 100 movies to his credit, and still counting has revealed he has got no tolerance for any form of h0m0sexuals.

In a recent interview, Lateef Adedimeji who is happily married to his colleague, Adebimpe shared his encounter with some of queer guys.

“I have been approached by g@y. I think it happened on one or two occasions, and I cursed them because I feel being gay is madness. Any way, I am not like that.

I love myself the way I am and that is the most important thing. It is the love you show to yourself that will radiate to other people, and they will love you the way you are. There have been a lot of misconceptions about me, but that’s their problem. There is freedom of expression and people can say what they want. What is important is to know yourself and stick to what you do, and you would prosper.”

Sharing some tips on how to safeguard marriages from packing up, he said, “What is important is that, there must be a clear understanding between the couples. Learn to be friends and be open to each other. No one should feel more superior to the other. See yourselves as one, and tell yourselves everything. You will definitely fight and argue. Of course, that’s certain but be sure that after the argument, both of you reach a conclusion. Solve your problems indoor; everything should not be put on social media. Keep a low life and be open with your spouse. My wife and I both write all the things we want and do not want, exchange them, read them out to each other, and make sure that we keep to them. With this, we get to know each other better.”

Speaking on his view about divorce, the talented actor said, “Whatever is becoming a threat to your life, if it’s your peace of mind or mental health, then there is no need to be together.”

#Bbnaija S7: Deji begins implementation of his secret task

0

Big Brother Naija Housemate, Deji has begun the implementation of the secret task given to him by Biggie to start frantically complaining about his Level 1 Housemates

Recall that during his Diary Session Wednesday, Biggie gave him a secret mission as he did with Modella but this time, Biggie wantsDeji to start frantically complaining about his Level 1 Housemates, and the complaints should escalate as the days progress.

Not only should he complain about his Level 1 Housemates, but he should state that he feels that his happiness will only be possible if he moves to Level 2. On Friday, he should pack his bags and demand to be moved to Level 2.

On the same day, Deji and Doyin went into the bedroom where Deji proceeded to put his Secret Task in motion. He started complaining about his fellow Housemates’ rowdiness and told Doyin that he wanted to go to Level 2.

He said that he is used to living by himself even though he is from a polygamous family. Deji also added that the tension that exists between him and Chichi is another factor in his decision to leave.

Doyin tried to talk him out of his decision by saying that the situation in Level 2 is not better since Amaka confided in her saying that she would like to be swapped to Level 1 because her Level 2 Housemates are constantly fighting.
