Viola Davis Receives Grammy EGOT Status.

0

After winning Best Audiobook, Best Narrative and Best Narrative at the Gramophone on Sunday, actress Viola Davis joins a rare tally of showbiz stars to win Emmys, Grammys, Oscars and more. “Tony” (EGOT).

Davis, 57, won a Grammy for her soundtrack to the audio version of her 2022 best-selling book finding Me.

“I wrote this book in honor of six-year-old Viola,” she said at a pre-air event in Los Angeles. And it’s just a trip – I’m just EGOT!

Davis has made some pretty impressive progress. comedian Mel Brooks, who already has EGOT; non-Oscar composer and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda; as well as Oscar and Grammy winner Jamie Foxx and musician Questlove.

Davis won Best Supporting Actress in 2017 for Fences, starring Denzel Washington, and Tony won her second Best Supporting Actress in 2010 for August Wilson.

In 2015, she received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress for How to Get Away with “Murder”.

Davis became the 18th person to accomplish this feat. The last before her is Jennifer Hudson in 2021. Other winners include actors Whoopi Goldberg and Rita Moreno, Broadway composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and singer John Legend.

Tems won her first Grammy and Burna Boy lost.

0

Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, better known as Tems, received her first Grammy Award.

She accepted the award at a ceremony at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday. Her contribution to Future’s hit “Wait For U” with Drake won her the award.

Ranks Africa previously reported that Tems was among the guests invited to Roc Nation’s annual pre-Grammy dinner on Saturday.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, Tems can be seen in a white dress chatting with Roc Nation founder Jay-Z and his wife, Beyoncé.

The pre-Grammy brunch was held at a private home in the Bel Air area, Los Angeles. Meanwhile, award-winning singer Damini Ogbulu, better known as Burna Boy, lost two nominations.

Beyoncé has broken the record for the most Grammy wins in history.

0

Queen of Pop Beyoncé retained her first place at the Grammy Awards on Sunday with her 32nd win and fourth standing ovation of the night.

The 41-year-old started the day with the most chance of winning a Grammy at age 9 after releasing “Renaissance,” a rich, layered verse about club music. She won the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album for his hit “Renaissance”, beating out the late classical conductor Georg Solti, who won 31 awards.

I try not to be too emotional. And I was just going to spend the night,” Queen Bey said in a pompous dress, with hair shining in mermaid waves, as her peers watched the historic moment.
In a historically diverse record that pays homage to her family and the pioneers of funk, soul, rap, house and disco, Beyoncé pays homage to the queer community that created the genres she celebrates.

Beyoncé remains a serious contender for major awards in the Album, Recording and Song of the Year categories. The same goes for British singer Adele, who has received seven nominations for her introspective album 30.

The 2023 event compares sharply to 2017, when Adele won the grand prize at the lavish music business gala by beating Queen Bey’s culture-shattering lemonade.

Dark October: “You cry in vain” Linda Ikeji strikes back at the parents of murdered UNIPORT students.

0

Popular blogger and media mogul Linda Ikeji is avenging the parents of UNIPORT students who were killed because of their complaints about the recently released Dark October movie.

Ranks Africa reports that the grieving parents of four Port Harcourt University students killed by the mafia in the Aluu community in 2012 have asked popular blogger Linda Ikeji and Netflix to stop the scheduled release of her film Dark October.

The film tells about the murder in October 2012 of a student codenamed Aluu-4.

Families of the slain students were consulted before filming began, according to a statement released Wednesday by Livingston Wechie, executive director of The Integrity Friends for Truth and Peace Initiative (TIFPI) advocacy group in Port Harcourt, Rivers. Released in September, the film was scheduled for release on February 3.

They believed that the development would bring back the unpleasant memories that had buried them. They added that the film “lives through the already repressed trauma of the tragic murder of their children.”

In response, Linda Ikeji advised not to sue, as it would be a waste of time and resources.

She noted that the film does not mention the names or photographs of the boys or their families.

Linda added that the film is a full-fledged novel dedicated to the memory of Aluu 4, and therefore their lawsuit is useless, as nothing is guaranteed.

In her words,

“Dear Livingston and partners, thank you so much for the press statement you put in two days ago. It brought so much awareness to this film that talks about jungle justice as a menace in our society and the things that need to be done to stop or curtail it.

You’re backing over nothing. Dark October is a complete work of fiction. Dedicated to the memory of Aluu 4. There are no facts in the film. I wish you’d watch it before taking any action because I guarantee you, you would be wasting your time and resources.

The movie does not carry the names or images of the boys mentioned. There are no family members represented in the film apart from a fictionalized mother and sister……”.
