Coachella sues Afrochella for infringement of its trademark.

0

Afrochella in Ghana is being sued by the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival for trademark violation. Afrochella’s organizers were accused of intentionally “trading on the goodwill” of Coachella and its affiliated events by using the name “Afrochella” in a confusing manner and trying to register Coachella’s actual trademarks as their own, according to a lawsuit filed on October 5 in a federal court in California. According to the filings, the Afrochella organizers “went so far as to apply in Ghana to register Coachella as their own trademarks,” showing that they were “not only content to copy and attempt to trade on the reputation of Coachella.”

Documents, obtained by Pitchfork, also pointed out that the organizers of Afrochella deliberately chose the name with the “specific intent to create a suggestion that it was a part of Coachella.” The documents further stated that Coachella organizers had reached out to the Afrochella team a few years prior to make adjustments, but were allegedly ignored.

“Despite repeated requests from Plaintiffs, defendants have refused to adopt their own distinctive event name, and as a result, instances of actual confusion have already appeared on social media.”

In a recently re-surfaced social media post, there is evidence showing that Edward “Deezy” Elohim, Afrochella’s former boss admitted that Afrochella was affiliated with Coachella.

In 2019, Coachella organizers cautioned the general public that it did not want Afrochella attendees to believe that the Ghanaian festival was “authorized by, or affiliated with, AEG or Coachella.”

Last year, Coachella Music Festival, LLC and Goldenvoice, LLC took similar legal action against Live Nation Entertainment for alleged trademark infringement, and the lawsuit was settled earlier this year.

This year’s Afrochella Festival is slated for December 28 through December 29, 2022, at the El Wak Stadium in Ghana, with Burna Boy and Stonebwoy as its headliners and other big names like Ayra Starr,Black Sherif, Fireboy DML, and more. Since it began, the festival has gained a reputation for celebrating African culture and music. According to the festival’s official website, the theme for this year’s event is “Afrofuturism,” and the show will highlight Africa’s thriving talent.

“The festival is designed to elevate and highlight the thrilling and thriving millennial talent in Africa by introducing an interactive event that teaches, explains, and explores various cultures through a pioneering approach. Afrochellans will experience art and creative activations from the continent, celebrate African music, and taste premium and cultured cuisine.”

New pictures of Beauty Tukura are lovely, and the caption reads, “Always In My Bag,” but we say, “No Competition.” The highly decorated beauty queen keeps proving to us that being crowned beauty queen is a result of inner beauty, not fluke.

Chude Jideonwo sits down with Big Brother Naija season 6 winner, Whitemoney, in the latest episode of “#WithChude.”

The reality TV star and singer recounted his experience in the house, his effort to enter the Big Brother Naija house, and his plans for the future as he works toward his end goal, which he says is winning the Grammys. Whitemoney was all about focus in the Big Brother Naija house. He said:

I didn’t chop focus to win the show, I chop focus to be relevant after the show.

He speaks on his journey to fame, saying: “I was denied a lot of privileges. When record labels were looking for artists, they would turn me down. When I go for auditions for billboards, they turn me down. Even from the women, I got rejected because I was broke, and you know that money and love work hand in hand. In our current situation, you can buy love. It just depends on the amount. When you finish it, you either renew it or upgrade.”

In this episode of Grammys’ “Herbal Tea & White Sofas,” Ayra Starr shares her backstage must-haves.

0

Nigerian singer-songwriter Ayra Starr strives to take a piece of home with her wherever she goes, as her tour schedule frequently requires her to travel far away from her home.

In this new episode of the Grammys‘ “Herbal Tea and White Sofas,” the singer-songwriter talks about life on tour and her must-haves backstage. When it comes to food and snacks, the singer says that noodles and gummy bears are must-haves as she uses creative techniques to make her sweet snacks and comfort food on tour taste even better.

She said:

Every backstage I have to eat noodles. Noodles are my favorite food in the whole world and it just comforts me. In Nigeria, we have noodles called indomie. I used to get it since I was a child, when I became a teenager, when I was in school. When I was in uni, I couldn’t cook, I would always just make some indomie, and as Nigerians, we know how to make things taste amazing in different ways.

Ayra Starr definitely didn’t leave out the most essential part for her, which is family. She says her brother, who is a songwriter, has to be with her on tour. She said:

My brother is a songwriter, and he’s my best friend, so he has to be with me.

#WCW AMAZON COVER: PHYNA- IG: Stylist: @ceolumineeofficial | Photography: @toniegrapher

Our Amazon this week is the Hype Priestess of Nigeria, a fine girl with ghetto spirit  Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as PHYNA.

It is not news anymore that she is currently the queen of reality stars in Nigeria. She legitimately entered the millionaire caucus on Sunday night, October 2nd, after winning #BBNAIJASEASON 7. PHYNA is evidently described as’ Hype Priestess of Nigeria, Fine Girl with Ghetto Spirit’. The description alone is what sets her aside from others. The description alone distinguishes her from other people. From day one to day 72 of #BBNAIJA SEASON 7, Phyna gave viewers fresh stuff, therefore many analysts weren’t surprised by her victory.
Before entry into the bbnaija house, Phyna was a content creator (mostly tiktok) and Hype Priestess who never shied away from doing what she liked most. Many of her previous online postings came to light when she was a housemate of the #bbnaija season 7, demonstrating to many that she was not acting in character or following a script to remain in the BBNaija house.
Phyna is living proof that you shouldn’t allow anything restrict your ability to shine and that you should never hesitate to demonstrate your talent when given the chance, regardless of where you are from. Phyna’s victory in #BBNAija season 7 was the result of years of  hardwork, prayer and consistency, not just luck or grace.
From what we have seen so far, Phyna has a personality that encourages us to pursue our goals wholeheartedly and go forward in life. Never let a setback or hurdle hold you back from achieving success in life. Fight valiantly in the struggle of life, and face obstacles with bravery, tenacity, and persistence. Just keep pushing forward with the expectation that one day life will crown you as a great human being, and that day is not far off. All of this is her journey, and we all saw how fearlessly she continued to go until the big moment on October 2nd, when she was crowned.
