Exclusive With Actor Olu’Deno Adebamowo

0

Olu Adebamowo is one of the fast rising nollywood actors, having featured in several films and produced some of his own. In an exclusive interview with Ranks Screen, he shared his thoughts on his career and the industry as a whole.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I’ll be straightforward with that, I see myself topping in every area of life that I represent. I’m not talking about being in all movies, but I shall be a force to reckon with.

Were there any early difficulties as an ACTOR, and what kept you going?

Difficult times will always show up in every field of practice, it’s never easy anywhere you know? In my own case I had series of issues, one of it was not willing to do what the industry call “the norm” which about 80% of the people do and I’m talking about “kissing asses”.

Many times I’ve gotten offers that suggests that I do some demeaning things, good thing is I’m quick to recognize when those offer come, so I quickly and politely reject them.

You are such a fun and loving person according to your social media; how can you describe your professional self?

When it comes to my profession, i give it my best. You would agree that my job is the type that comes with a lot of fun, if you aren’t careful you’ll mix it all up and get carried away.

For me, I’m very meticulous, I deal with every role as though I’m playing the lead character, I take several costume options on set (if it’s the type that requires me to bring my own costumes), I do a lot of personal developments also, I do not wait to get that character before I play it out in my head and then rehearse it when I’m within my space.

What words of wisdom would you offer to talented people out there nursing ambitions to become actors?

It’s worth trying hard everyday to attain the height you desire, remember it’s not easy, many things will come to pose as good reasons to quit, it’s at that point you should keep the fire burning because the highest degree is what gets the food done, so keep it burning the food will soon be done.

Tell us three things you like and three things you dislike about your current position as an actor in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Likes

I like that I’m on my own lane and it’s a joy ride so far.

I like that I’m quietly setting a pace for people on this same path.

I like that everyday on the path I learn new skills to forge ahead

Dislikes

I’m not too comfortable with the fact that I don’t have enough resources yet to groom the number of people I intend to see do well in this industry.

I don’t like the fact that as a producer and story teller, I’m yet to tell a story that would make the entire nations of the earth shake.

I love big things, I’m not so cool with the fact that I’m yet to make my first appearance in a Hollywood project.

What are you looking forward to in the new year—any projects?

I look forward to a very beautiful year, I already see a lot of great opportunities to improve on my self, to show the world I’m the master of my craft and finally I’m hoping to assist alot of people who want to get into the industry but have little or no opportunities to do so. There’s also a major project in the pipeline, it’s quite big, I tell you this one is way way bigger than me, it would hit like a major pandemic!

There’s a series I do on Instagram, it’s tagged “The Message For you” it’s one lovely series where I talk about all issues of life. I also have a movie showing presently on YouTube titled: Square One, it’s a movie that talks mainly about sickle cell anemia and it’s myths, very lovely piece I must say.

Media entrepreneur Linda Ikeji has announced her foray into Nollywood with a feature film titled “Dark October”.

The film features a cast of talented new-comers, Chuks Joseph, Munachi Okpara, Kem-Ajieh Ikechukwu, and Kelechukwu Oriaku.

Linda Ikeji said: “This film is a powerful and important story that needs to be told. We hope it will spark a conversation about the dangers of extrajudicial killings and the importance of ensuring justice for all.”

One may wonder what do all three have in common, the answer is not far-fetched: they have always done things their own way and this has not gone unrecognized given their recent collaboration with a grandmaster of craftsmanship, the Balvenie.

As a brand which embodies mastery in itself, The Balvenie applauds the spirit of passion and craftsmanship in creative individuals who share this same zeal and has consistently demonstrated dedication to commemorating and rewarding recognizable uncommon craft among the world’s artistic and passionate people.

You can always define and design your own path to success in every aspect of life; focus, discipline and consistency is key, when you leverage your uniqueness, mastery ensues– and this is what the maker’s project is about.

Charles Okpaleke is the creator of Play Management, an award-winning production company that has worked on some of the most recently talked about Nollywood films, including Breaking Free and Living in Bondage. During the last edition of the Balvenie Makers event in Lagos, He said

there is no customized path to success, each person has a uniqueness that is borne out of the individual mindset and attitude to put in the work; the mastery you see is the result of what happens behind-the-scenes and it shows in your output.

Toyin Abraham is an actor and filmmaker who began her career in 2003 and has earned a household name in the indigenous Yoruba movie industry. Through her niche in satirical plots, Toyin has won numerous awards in comedy and is one of the top faces of the Yoruba movie industry and has featured in popular award-winning movies such as; Alakada,  King of thieves, and The Therapistto list few. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie starred in the most recent Dior handbag Campaign.

0

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie served as the face of Dior’s most recent handbag advertising campaign, which Maria Grazia Chiuri dubbed “Lady 95.22.” The first phase of the campaign includes a series of black-and-white pictures of the Nigerian author as well as other remarkable women from the fields of fashion, film, literature, sports, music, and art, such as Anya Taylor-Joy and Beatrice Borromeo.

According to the French luxury fashion house, “this new bag offers a totally contemporary reinvention of the iconic lines of the Lady Dior, with its Macro and Maxicannage motifs, soft curves and signature charms. Its unique name references the years of its predecessor’s and its own creation.”

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Wearing the “We Should All Be Feminists T-shirts, paired with a black suit and a matching Lady 95.22, she says, “I feel happiest when I am surrounded by the people I love—by my family, by my friends. I think I just light up.”

She adds, “I think femininity and feminism have often been seen as mutually exclusive. And so, I think for a long time, people felt that being a feminist meant somehow to reject everything to do with feminity. Right so, you have to in some ways, kind of appropriate a man to be a feminist, and I don’t think so at all. I think that femininity and feminism actually do complement each other. Women should be allowed to have a broad range of what they can be, who they can be, of how they can present themselves. And so I think femininity is one of those options and I love femininity.”

Talking about the bag, she continues:

There’s something almost timeless about the bag. I think it would be interesting to juxtapose that with a less timeless outfit – a lot of colour, a lot clashing, a lot of maximalism and then the bag. Its beauty is not rooted in any particular period. Timelessness means that it cuts across cultures. It doesn’t matter where one is looking at a beautiful timeless thing, one finds it. One of the motos I like to live by is, never admire quietly. If I admire something about somebody, I think it’s important to tell them. We humans are so fragile and it’s important to give people their flowers while they’re here. So never admire quietly.
